Human Sciences: Escape Game at the virtual ComputerStudienWerkstatt (CSW)

Concept for an escape game within the virtual VR environment of the CSW

This project was implemented as part of “fuels – Future Learning Spaces” in 2023 .

In cooperation with the Media Education group, the virtual ComputerStudienWerkstatt (CSW) was created in 2022 as the first VR learning environment as part of the fuels project at the TU Darmstadt. It is a contemporary learning and experience space for learning with and about digital media, which was built and partially textured by the fuels team in “Mozilla Hubs.”

Following on from the initial considerations, which, in addition to the media design, also focus on the expansion of the space into virtual reality and the examination of learning space concepts from a media education perspective, a didactic concept for an escape game in the virtual CSW with Mozilla Hubs was developed jointly by the fuels team and the media education group in 2023.

The escape game is primarily aimed at students in the Department of Human Sciences and all teaching qualifications. The central educational objective of the escape game relates to the areas of collaboration and media knowledge, which resulted in a lifeworld-orientated story and the game logic.

Methodologically, the concept is based on experiential learning with problem-based action tasks. On the other hand, co-operative learning is pursued by linking digital space/objects and material space/objects.

In terms of content, the interactive, gamified teaching/learning scenario integrates tasks into the story that require or impart both media pedagogical knowledge and knowledge from the field of scientific work. The tasks are solved collaboratively within the group.
