System Messages (Web & Mail)

Notifications can be set profile-specific and related to individual forums and courses.

Click in the upper right corner on your profile picture

Prefences -> Notification Preferences

Here you can define or change your notification options. You can set which events you want to be notified about only in Moodle (web) and/or whether you want to be notified by email. You can even disable notifications altogether.

You can also set an alternative address for your email notifications using the cog at the top of the “Email” column. See Configure E-Mail Forwarding .

Prefences -> Message Preferences

Here you can set who can send you messages in Moodle and how you want to be informed about them.

Local for a Specific Forum

In the corresponding forum you will find the button “Subscribe to forum” or “Unsubscribe from forum” if the option has been set by the instructors.

When creating a post, you can select whether you want to subscribe to the corresponding topic.

Global Forum Settings

Prefences -> Forum Preferences

There are the following options:

  • No digest/ Single – one email is sent per new forum post
  • Complete – a summary with the new posts of the forum is sent per day
  • Subjects – an e-mail is sent out per day with the topics of the new posts in the forum

The general subscription to forums with own contributions can also be switched off here.

Forum not unsubscribable?

Forums can have different default settings.

Message forums are by default forced subscribed and cannot be unsubscribed.

Most other forums are set by the instructors so that the notification setting can be determined by yourself.
