Development of the “.werkzeug” Editor
A Tool for Designing Linear Teaching-Learning Scenarios for Extended Reality (XR) Learning Environments
In 2024, the digital editor “.werkzeug” was developed as part of the as a tool specifically for designing and conceptualizing linear teaching-learning scenarios for Extended Reality learning environments. project “Future Learning Spaces” (fuels)
The goal of the development of the editor was to provide a platform that enables the efficient and accessible virtualization, editing, and preparation of both new and existing content for various platforms as needed. A particular focus is placed on supporting work and action processes in practice-oriented contexts, such as laboratory and workshop situations. However, the tool is fundamentally suitable for all application areas involving linear process workflows.
The user interface of the editor is clearly structured to facilitate the easy input and organization of new and existing learning content. The editor provides functions for structuring, editing, and media integration, allowing learning content to be arranged in linear sequences. This structuring ensures a logically constructed and easily comprehensible progression of content. Additionally, the editor supports the integration of images, enhancing the learning process through visual stimuli. The resulting teaching-learning materials feature an engaging design and a didactically meaningful structure, making them ideally suited for use in education.
The editor supports various content formats that can be flexibly combined to achieve different learning objectives. These include (development status in 2024):
- Text-based content: Descriptions, explanations
- Visual content: Images (JPEG, PNG)
In the future, the integration of additional multimedia content is planned, including videos, audio files, and external resources such as hyperlinks or documents. This expansion aims to increase the variety of media formats available and enhance the appeal of learning content. Once the teaching-learning scenarios have been created and edited, exporting the content is possible. The export file allows for publication on various mobile and stationary platforms, including XR devices (e.g., HoloLens 2, Meta Quest 3), smartphones, tablets, and notebooks. This functionality significantly facilitates the distribution and use of the created materials.
With the “.werkzeug” editor, an innovative tool is available that both simplifies and professionalizes the creation and distribution of linear teaching-learning scenarios for Extended Reality Learning Environments. It provides an efficient way to structure, adapt, and prepare learning content for various application scenarios (for example ). Standard Operating Procedure in the CiP Learning Factory
