How can I create captions in another language, and what should I consider?
If you need captions in a second language (e.g., in addition to German, also English):
Let the captions be automatically created in the language of the video (in the editing mode of the video – as described in the ). FAQ ''How do I create captions for my videos?''
- Then go to the settings (gear icon) of the video and download the file with the automatically generated captions in the ''Available Captions'' section (see Picture 1 below).
- Open the file in a text editor and translate ONLY the text segments under the timestamps (see Picture 2 below).
- Save the translated file as a .txt file and upload it in the ''Upload Captions'' section of the video settings (see Picture 3 below).
After the translated captions have been uploaded, you need to wait a moment before the new captions file is displayed (if necessary, refresh the browser page).
Viewers can then select the caption language in the ''Captions'' menu. They also need to enable the display of captions using the CC button (''closed captions'') in the player.
Tips:
- With the online service , entire Word and PowerPoint files can also be translated relatively accurately using machine translation. DeepL
- If you only want to display the translated captions (e.g., when enabling captions in the video player, only the English captions should be shown), you can easily delete the original captions (in the language of the video). Only the translated captions will then be displayed.
