Adobe Connect [at the TU]

Web Conferencing Tool for Online Meetings

Adobe Connect is a web conferencing system offered by the German Research and Education Network (DFN) and is available free of charge to teachers and staff at TU Darmstadt. It enables online meetings with up to 200 participants.

Adobe Connect can be used for online meetings in teaching just like Zoom or BigBlueButton (BBB) . However, only teachers and staff can set up a meeting. An initial activation is required for this (see below under “Instructions for Use”).

Another alternative tool is DFNconf – also a web-based video conferencing system offered by the German Research and Education Network (DFN).

Access to the Adobe Connect system is possible via browser: https://webconf.vc.dfn.de

However, for hosting and participating in meetings, the use of the Adobe Connect app is recommended! (Download available for Windows & MAC)

Please note:

Although Adobe Connect was a commonly used tool for online sessions in higher education in the past, it is only recommended to a limited extent during periods of high demand. This may result in capacity limitations, leading to possible disruptions. Therefore, we recommend using the alternative web conferencing systems Zoom or BigBlueButton (BBB) .

  • Computer / Laptop → Use of the Adobe Connect app is recommended (Download: Windows & MAC)
  • Stable internet connection (preferably via LAN)
  • USB headset recommended (usually better than using internal microphone/speakers)
  • USB webcam optional
  • Audio / Video Conferencing
  • Shared Whiteboard (for freely working on content such as sketches or calculations)
  • Archive for PowerPoint Presentations (to display a slide presentation)
  • Live Voting Tool (with multiple-choice or free-text responses)
  • Chat (visible to all participants or as a private chat room)
  • Breakout Rooms (for teamwork within a web meeting)
  • Application & Desktop Sharing (e.g. to demonstrate software applications on your computer or share live notes in a text document for all to see)
  • Recording of the audio/video conference and export in FLV or MP4 format possible

Being a Meeting Host in Adobe Connect:

Teachers and staff at TU Darmstadt can use their TU-ID to set up an online session in Adobe Connect and invite other participants. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for students. In such cases, an alternative tool is Zoom .)

  • You must activate your access to the DFN service once.
    Instructions for DFN-AAI Activation
  • After successful activation, you can log in to the Adobe Connect system via your browser at any time (https://webconf.vc.dfn.de) and set up an online session.
    1. Click on the button “Login via DFN-AAI and DFNconf”
    2. Enter or select “Technische Universität Darmstadt” as your institution (if listed under “Previous selection”)
    3. Enter the username and password of your TU-ID
  • To start and conduct a scheduled online meeting, it is recommended to use the Adobe Connect app. Based on experience, the app tends to be more stable than using Adobe Connect in the browser.
Download Adobe Connect App: Windows & MAC

Joining an Adobe Connect Meeting:

To join an Adobe Connect session, simply use the access link that was shared with you in advance by the organiser via email or another channel.

  • Enter the link in the Adobe Connect app (recommended!) or use a browser.
  • Log in to Adobe Connect as a guest: enter a name (and a room password, if required). Then enter the online meeting room.
