Directorate II Studies and Teaching: Serious game in Escape Room format for student orientation

Pupils can experience a complete study day at TU Darmstadt to get to know their desired study program and the university.

This project was implemented as part of “fuels – Future Learning Spaces” in 2023 .

Student orientation, getting to know the TU Darmstadt, and gaining initial (digital) experience in your desired course of study are the focus of this 360° escape game. Students can experience a full day of study at the TU Darmstadt.

Let's start with attending the lecture. While you work on a specific topic from your studies, you have the opportunity to make direct contact with fellow students and future project partners. Afterwards, in the project phase, an experiment is carried out in the laboratory/learning factory, whereby the students get to know laboratories and learning factories in a realistic scenario. After successfully completing the experiment, students go to the learning center. The focus here is on the topic of learning and differences between school and university, but also on the support services that the TU Darmstadt offers.

The students get to know everyday university life through the interactive game and use integrated puzzles to work out topic-specific content from their desired course of study. The aim of the escape game is for students to get a realistic picture of everyday university life, to reduce prejudices or fears, and to be supported in finding a course of study and starting their studies.

The pilot project will be implemented in the materials science and mechanical engineering degree programs and can be expanded to other degree programs.

The game lasts approximately 60 minutes and is aimed at students from the 9th grade and those interested in studying.

The 360° SeriousGame in EscapeRoom format was developed and technically implemented together with the Central Student Advisory and Orientation Office at the TU Darmstadt.
