Sending a Message to All Members of a Group

Imagine all members of a group need to be informed, for example, about the rescheduling of a practice session. It can be very time-consuming to search for each group member from the participant list and send them a message individually. Setting up additional group forums for this purpose might be too complicated and could cause confusion.

Solution

A less complicated solution is as follows:

1. Select the Participants option in navigation bar above (see screenshot Send a Group Message Step 1).

2. In the next overview, all course participants are displayed. Above this list is a search and filter field. Here you can select the group you want to inform (see screenshot Send a Group Message Step 2).

3. The overview now lists all group members. You can select all participants by ticking the checkbox in the left column at the top (see screenshot Send a Group Message Step 3).

4. Next, choose With selected users… Send a Message at the bottom (see screenshot Send a Group Message Step 4).

5. An editor window will open where you can enter the message. After composing the message, you just need to click on the Send message to X people button.

Note

Not every student may have set their profile to be notified by e-mail when a message is received. Therefore, students should be informed in advance if you plan to use the messaging system for communication.

Only lecturers, assistants and tutors have the necessary rights for this solution. Group forums however can be used by all course participants.
