Etherpad

The Etherpad Lite module allows all course participants to write collaboratively and at the same time (synchronously) on a text page (pad).

A pad can be used for example for:

  • Collaborative documentation of an experiment
  • Reworking draft texts
  • Brainstorming

Further information on using an Etherpad can be found in the tool collection in the article Etherpad [at the TU | on the web].

Using the Etherpad in Moodle

To use an Etherpad in your course, first switch it to edit mode. Then click on “Add an activity or resource” and select “Etherpad Lite” from the list.

After assigning a name, a mandatory Intro and the option to set up write access to the Etherpad for guests, the pad is ready for use.

The “Etherpad” image shows the Etherpad user interface, with the settings block located above the text field. On the left side you have functions for variation of the font, for adding a list and for undoing changes, similar to the Moodle forums, for example.

By clicking on the crossed-out eye, you can “Clear Authorship colours”

  • Short explanation: Each user who writes in this pad is assigned their own colour to distinguish which text passages were written by whom.
  • You can reset this coloured marker, for example to identify completed tasks.
  • If something is then written in the pad after the reset, it will be highlighted in colour again.
