In which folder on Panopto should I upload my videos?

As shown in Video Tutorial 01 (opens in new tab), the role ''Creator'' on Panopto generally provides access to both a personal ''My Folder'' and folders linked to Moodle courses .

If you want to provide lecture recordings or educational videos for a specific course, we always recommend using the folder linked to Moodle (see also FAQ: How do I find the Panopto folder linked to Moodle? ). Videos stored in such a folder can easily be reused in subsequent semesters (or generally in other Moodle courses). See FAQ: How can I use videos from a past semester in a current Moodle course?

If you are creating videos for testing purposes or if they should only be available to a small group of people, the personal ''My Folder'' or a subfolder thereof is suitable.

The Panopto folder automatically linked to a Moodle course upon its creation initially adopts all permission groups from the Moodle course. All ''teachers'' as well as those with the roles ''assistant'' and ''tutor'' in the Moodle course are granted editing rights in the corresponding Panopto folder. All 'students' in the Moodle course are granted viewing rights in the corresponding Panopto folder, meaning they can only watch the videos stored in the folder.

Additionally, you can grant access to other groups (e.g., all TU members) or make videos completely public through the sharing options of the folder or a specific video. Our Video Tutorial 04 (opens in new tab) explains how to adjust access to folders or individual videos using the sharing options.

You initially have exclusive access to the ''My Folder''. However, you can create as many subfolders as you like within this folder and share them with others for viewing or collaborative work.

It is not recommended to provide videos for courses via subfolders of the ''My Folder''. After all, no one (except the system administrators) will have access to the videos if the owner of the folder leaves TU Darmstadt. This method of sharing should therefore not be used by a person who are only temporarily responsible for teaching.
