Import course (content)

You can reuse entire Moodle courses or even individual pieces of course content that you have created and designed once in new courses. Use the import function for this.

To import content from other courses, call up the import function via the “More” menu:

More -> Course reuse -> Import (in the drop-down menu)

Select a source course from which data is to be imported. As the platform has a large number of courses, there is a search function for entering a course name. Once the source course has been found, click “Continue” to go to the “Basic settings”.

There you can specify which content categories, e.g. only “Include activities”, should be transferred from the course to the new one. All elements are selected by default.

Now select which content you would like to transfer from the old course. The default setting is all content, but without user-related data, such as forum entries. You can exclude individual elements by removing ticks from the checkboxes. This is necessary for the announcements forum (third checkmark from the top) to avoid duplication. Click on “Next”.

You will now see an overview of all content imported from the old course. Complete the import by clicking on “Perform import”.

You can also import specific content from old courses at any time, e.g. quizzes.

Please note that it is recommended to use “Import” instead of “Restore”. Restore“ works with a backup file; the problem with this is that course content can be overwritten by mistake. This risk does not exist with ”Import“.

Please also note that in both cases only the ”empty“ activities without content are transferred, as lecturers have no rights to restore personal data. For content with user-related data, such as the forum, glossary and wiki, use the Block ”Sharing Cart" .
