Tags

Tags allow students and instructors to link different types of content on the Moodle site. This allows students to quickly find content in Moodle.

Using Tags in the Profile

With the help of tags, participants and instructors can describe their interests and network with other participants and instructors with similar interests. In the user profile there is an area where you can enter your interests. This will link the relevant person to an associated tag.

If you want to tell other participants what your interests are, go to your profile editing page by clicking on your profile at the top right of the page and then navigate to Preferences > Profile > Edit Profile. In the “Interests” section, enter your personal interests as a comma-separated list of tags. If a tag already exists, you will be linked to that tag. If the tag does not yet exist, it will be newly created and you will be linked to the new tag.

Your courses and course activities, such as the OU wiki or questions, can be tagged. You can create these directly when creating the activity or course.

To do this, click on “Tags” in the “Settings menu” and add the desired information.

You can search for tags: In your dashboard on the tags page or in the tag block, if created.

Switch your course to edit mode and select the “Tags” block from the selection menu on the bottom left of the course page “Add Block”.

This block provides an effective way to visualize tags in a so-called “tag cloud” or “keyword cloud.” In this representation, the font size of a tag appears larger the more frequently that tag is used.

You can configure this using the small gear in the block and, for example, use “Tags in context” to set that only the tags created in the course are shown to you, instead of the Moodle-wide tags (“core system”).

Tag Cloud

For every tag in Moodle there is an associated tag page. This page displays all participants, information, and other resources associated with that tag. Each tag has a description, links to related pages, a list of participants, and blocks of resources associated with the tag.

You can edit existing tags using “Edit tag.” There you can change the description of the tag and specify related tags, which will then also be displayed on the tag page.

If the tag is inappropriate or displays questionable content, you can mark the tag as inappropriate. Those responsible for the course can then delete the tag.
